Bullying Prevention & Reporting
Creating a Safe School for Everyone
At Sebastian Middle School, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and welcoming learning environment where all students can learn, grow, and feel valued. Bullying has no place in our school community, and every student has the right to feel safe at school.
We encourage students to be kind, inclusive, and respectful of others both in person and online.
What Is Bullying?
Bullying is unwanted and aggressive behavior that is:
- Intentional – done on purpose
- Repeated – happens more than once or has the potential to continue
- Involves a Power Imbalance – one person has more social, physical, emotional, or other power than another
Bullying can take many forms, including:
Verbal Bullying
- Name-calling
- Teasing
- Threats
- Hurtful comments
Social or Relational Bullying
- Excluding others from groups
- Spreading rumors
- Embarrassing someone publicly
- Damaging friendships or reputations
Physical Bullying
- Hitting, pushing, or tripping
- Taking or damaging belongings
- Physical intimidation
Cyberbullying
- Hurtful messages or comments online
- Sharing embarrassing photos or videos
- Creating fake accounts
Harassment through social media, texting, or gaming platforms
What Should Students Do?
If you are being bullied or witness bullying:
Tell a Trusted Adult. Report concerns to:
- A teacher
- School counselor
- Administrator
- Dean
- School resource officer
Parent or guardian
Be an Upstander. Students can help by:
- Supporting classmates who are being targeted
- Refusing to participate in bullying behavior
- Reporting concerns to an adult
Promoting kindness and inclusion
Don’t Retaliate
Fighting back or seeking revenge often makes situations worse. Allow school staff to investigate and help resolve concerns safely.
Anonymous Reporting
Students who are uncomfortable reporting concerns directly are encouraged to speak with any trusted adult or use available reporting methods provided by the school district.
Remember: Reporting bullying is not tattling—it is helping keep our school safe.
How We Respond
All reports of bullying are taken seriously and investigated according to district procedures. When concerns are reported, school staff will:
- Gather information from all parties involved
- Interview witnesses when appropriate
- Determine whether the behavior meets the definition of bullying
- Take appropriate corrective action
- Provide support for students involved
Depending on the situation, interventions may include parent conferences, counseling support, restorative practices, behavior contracts, disciplinary consequences, safety plans, or other student supports.
Together We Can Make a Difference
Every Eagle plays an important role in creating a positive school culture. By showing respect, kindness, and empathy, we can ensure Sebastian Middle School remains a place where every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
See Something. Say Something. Support Someone.
