The Mathematics Department at Sebastian Middle School empowers students to think critically, solve problems confidently, and apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations. Through engaging lessons, collaborative learning, and hands-on activities, students develop the skills necessary for success in high school, college, careers, and everyday life.
Our curriculum emphasizes conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and perseverance while helping students build confidence in their abilities.

What Students Learn
Grade 6 Mathematics
Students strengthen foundational skills in number operations, fractions, decimals, ratios, expressions, equations, geometry, and statistics. Instruction focuses on building mathematical fluency and problem-solving strategies.
Grade 7 Mathematics
Students expand their understanding of proportional relationships, rational numbers, algebraic expressions, equations, geometry, probability, and statistics. Students learn to analyze problems and apply mathematical reasoning in a variety of contexts.
Grade 8 Mathematics
Students prepare for high school mathematics by exploring linear equations, functions, systems of equations, geometry, and data analysis. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, mathematical modeling, and real-world applications.
Advanced Mathematics Opportunities
Eligible students may have opportunities to participate in accelerated coursework designed to prepare them for high school-level mathematics and advanced academic pathways. Course include Algebra 1 and Geometry.
