The Science Department at Sebastian Middle School encourages students to explore the natural world through inquiry, investigation, and hands-on learning. Our science curriculum helps students develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of the scientific principles that shape our everyday lives.
Through engaging laboratory activities, collaborative projects, and real-world applications, students learn to think like scientists—asking questions, gathering evidence, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions.

What Students Learn
Grade 6 Science
Students explore Earth and space science concepts, including weather, climate, Earth’s systems, and the universe. Students learn how scientific inquiry helps us better understand our planet and beyond.
Grade 7 Science
Students investigate life science topics such as cells, ecosystems, heredity, and the diversity of living organisms. Students examine how living things interact with each other and their environment.
Grade 8 Science
Students focus on physical science concepts including matter, energy, force, motion, and chemical interactions. Students also prepare for the Grade 8 Statewide Science Assessment.
Advanced Science Opportunities
Eligible students may have opportunities to participate in accelerated coursework designed to prepare them for high school-level science and advanced academic pathways. Course include Physical Science and Biology 1.
