Attendance
Every Day Matters
Regular attendance is essential for academic success. Students are expected to arrive on time and attend school daily.
Key Guidelines:
- Absences should be reported by a parent/guardian
- Excessive absences may require documentation
- Tardies impact instructional time and learning
- Students are responsible for making up missed work
Why it matters: Missed time in class directly impacts academic performance and growth.
Attendance Procedures
Regular attendance is essential for student success. If your child is absent, a parent or guardian must submit documentation within 48 hours of the student’s return to school. Absences not documented within this timeframe may be recorded as unexcused.
Parents may submit an absence by providing a written note containing:
- Student’s full legal name
- Student ID number
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for the absence
- Parent/Guardian signature
- Current parent/guardian phone number
You can also email your note to Yeji Matthews at: [email protected]
Excused Absences
Absences may be excused for the following reasons:
- Student illness
- Serious illness or death of an immediate family member
- Medical or dental appointments
- Recognized religious holidays
- Other reasons permitted by St. Johns County School District policy
Unexcused Absences
The following are generally not considered excused absences:
- Family vacations or travel
- Non-school-sponsored sports competitions
- Performances or competitions unrelated to school activities
- “Take Your Child to Work” days
- Other absences that do not meet district attendance guidelines
Family emergencies may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please provide detailed information when submitting documentation for review.
Tardy to School
Parents do not need to personally bring students that are late into the school. Simply drop your student off and make sure you see them enter the front door. The front office will check them in. Please provide a parent note or doctor note to the front office for the student to submit upon check-in.
Our attendance policy aligns to the St. Johns County School District’s policy and can be found in the Code of Conduct on page 17:
