Take Stock in Children

The annual application period for the Take Stock in Children scholarship and mentoring program begins tomorrow (February 10, 2023).  The application period will close on March 11, 2023.  Please consider forwarding this notice to any/all of your 8th grade teachers who might identify qualified candidates.

We have a new online application portal available at CLICK HERE.  This online application will create a more streamlined process for families to apply to the Take Stock program.  If a family has limited online access, we will still accept paper application packages as necessary.  The PDF form of the paper application is attached to this email.

The Take Stock in Children program is unique to the State of Florida, and is entering its 27th year.  Students who meet the grades, attendance, and behavior standards while working with a volunteer mentor throughout their high school career will earn a two-year Florida Prepaid state college tuition scholarship.  Since 2007, our St. Johns County program has seen over 96% of our students matriculate to a post-secondary institution.

Minimum standards for middle school students to be considered for acceptance include:

  • Middle School GPA of 2.5 with no “F” semester grades
  • Attendance in last 3 semesters with a total of not more than 15 unexcused absences
  • No in-school or out-of-school suspensions for the last 3 semesters

This program is income limited; family income levels for qualifying are the same as the federal free/reduced lunch program.  Parent/guardian must provide a 2021 federal tax return with the application to verify the meeting of the income qualifier.

At the middle school level, we are ONLY ACCEPTING applications for current 2022-23 Eighth (8th) graders during this cycle.

Additional information for the program can be found at www.takestockinchildren.org

If you or any parent/guardian has questions about the program or the application process, please contact me directly via email or my office phone listed below.  Thank you in advance for your support in identifying students who are viable candidates for this opportunity.
